Reporting an error

Send the page address, the specific statement you believe is wrong, and any supporting source. Requests are reviewed by the editorial desk; substantive requests are acknowledged and, where upheld, actioned.

How corrections are made

• Factual errors are corrected in the text, with a dated correction note on the article describing what changed.
• Significant corrections that alter the meaning of an item are noted at the top of the article.
• Typographical and formatting fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.
• Items are not deleted to hide an error; where an item cannot be corrected, it is withdrawn with a note explaining why.

Archive material

Archive items describe conditions at the time of writing. They are labelled historical rather than refreshed to look current. Where an archive item contains a claim that fails our current standards, it is quarantined and excluded from feeds, search and indexing.
